What is Commercial Photography?

Commercial photography is used to promote or sell a product or service. There are a number of ways that photographs can be used to better market products and corporations. Commercial photography involves taking pictures for commercial use: for example, in advertisements, merchandising and product placement. Commercial photography is also used in corporate brochures and leaflets, menus in cafes and restaurants, and similar commercial uses where photographs enhance a text.

Selling a Product

Commercial photographs of product lines, or of individual products, can either focus upon the design of the product (for example the sleekness of a kettle, or the depth of carpet fibers), or upon the use of the product (for example, the functions on an iPhone, or playing games on the Wii). Product commercial photography reveals the detail and feel of a product to the customer, while advertising commercial photography is more likely to focus upon the status and attractions of the product.

Promoting a Business

Businesses use commercial photography to promote themselves or particular aspects of their work. There is a difference between commercial photography, which is often performed in a studio or isolated environment, and industrial photography, which often takes place on the site or factory floor. Most commercial photography professionals will not take on an industrial photographic shoot, at Full Frame Photography, in Winchester, VA we love these on-site sessions. Another common method of promoting businesses is through architectural and building photography, where the business can be seen as a product.  Lauri is also an FAA-licensed drone pilot, this is an advantage over most other photographers, as she can capture images from much different perspectives.  Professional imagery that’s current, ensures that your website doesn’t appear outdated.  Using your smartphone can give your website an amateurish feel, professional images take it to the next level.  I help busy marketing executives and business owners tell their corporate stories with professional photography, so they look their best.

Emerging into the foreground from a field of cobalt blue is a sweep of what seems to be serrated metal. Appearing as sinuous as a bolt of silk, it draws the viewer to see something mundane become something beautiful. The subject is actually an industrial conveyor belt, seen through the lens of Bridgeforth Photographics, because Lauri Bridgeforth makes the ordinary appear extraordinary.

Manufacturing Photography

Commercial photography is at the foundation of Lauri Bridgeforth’s work. With the experience of a portraitist, she finds elegance in the elemental: mystery in a coil of wire, drama in the mesh of gears and the movement of parts. The signature of Lauri Bridgeforth’s work is interpreting the authenticity of a product through the imagination of art.

Lauri Bridgeforth’s product shots elevate your subject: a handful of locally produced tortilla chips becomes a study in quiet composition; another image is centered on the power of an industrial water-jet.  Interiors interplay light with space, for maximum effect.
