How To Have a Successful Photoshoot

Going into any photoshoot can be nerve-racking, especially if it is your first. Here are a few tips to help you with before you get there and while you are shooting your photos. I want you to feel as confident as you’ve ever felt before, during, and after your photoshoot. Not only does the confidence help you feel more comfortable, but it will make your photos look more authentic. These photos are an investment, and you deserve to love them.

The Prep Work

Getting to the photoshoot can sometimes be the most challenging part. The anticipation of what could happen, what to wear, and how you are supposed to act plays a role in a lot of people’s anxiety. Planning everything before the appointment is vital to a good photo shoot. You want to be able to have a plan for outfits and location. “Winging” a photo shoot is a recipe for disaster. While planning, you should practice what hair and makeup you envision that day. Sometimes, we have a vision of how we want to look that day, but it doesn’t always go as planned. Practicing ensures you will look exactly how you want to look for this shoot. Not only is planning your look head-to-toe vital but planning your location and having a backup plan just in case that location doesn’t work out is also essential in case something happens to your first choice. At Bridgeforth Photographics, we will collaborate with you on this, too.

The Wardrobe

Deciding what to wear for your photoshoot is another crucial component of your successful photoshoot. You want these photos to last a lifetime, meaning your outfits should be classic styles that don’t go out of fashion. We recommend you avoid busy patterns or anything with a logo, brand, or public figure on the front. If you take photos with others, make sure you all coordinate the colors of their outfits. The best way to get natural, easy-going pictures is to wear something comfortable. If you are wearing something uncomfortable, you are bound to show that in your photos.

Eliminate the Awkwardness

Eliminating the awkwardness in your photoshoot may be the hardest but the most valuable thing you do for your photos. The first step to ensure you don’t feel uncomfortable during the photoshoot is to encourage you to get to know your photographer and pick the one that best fits your vibe. The more comfortable you are with your photographer, the easier to feel natural. Planning a date or doing a small thing during the photoshoot is also an excellent way to help create raw photos. Having props to play

with and creating easy poses will make you feel much more comfortable. Many people chose to play music to eliminate the silence as well.
